Lake-front cottage for sale on Highland Lake, Litchfield County.

This unique property is built literally on a lake.  It is like living on a houseboat -- great for people looking for a low maintenance vacation home.  It is just two hours from NYC and could be used year round.

Outside: The cottage is on the desirable east side of Highland Lake that gets sun all day until sunset.  Do some early morning swimming or fishing -- the spring-fed lake is perfect for both.  Walk out the backdoor right onto your deck, get in your boat, and take off waterskiing and tubing.   Sit out on the deck under a retractable awning, host a late afternoon barbecue, and then watch an amazing sunset.

Inside: The newly renovated kitchen has stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.  The living room has a beautiful stone fireplace two stories high.  The master bedroom has beautiful views of the lake.  Two additional bedrooms are ready for kids or guests.

About Highland Lake

Highland Lake is a 444-acre lake nestled in the Berkshire Mountains of Litchfield County near the city of Winsted, Connecticut. Known as a resort lake due to well developed upscale homes on most of its shoreline, the crystal-clear water is also valued for its fishing, boating, swimming and water skiing opportunities.

Highland Lake began as an impoundment on the Mad River. In 1860, the town of Winchester constructed a dam across the river for flood control and later hydroelectric purposes. A unique feature of this dam is its spillway. During high water, the overflow from the lake washes over the top of the dam and across a major street. Traffic using the street must drive through the water. The construction of the dam raised the lake approximately 10 feet from its original height. Today the lake has a maximum depth of 63 feet and stretches for three miles when at full capacity. more info
