The pharmaceutical industry in Palestine        

The Palestinian pharmaceutical industry has achieved a significant development during the past 40 years, in terms of attaining medicine security and covering the needs if the medicines market with essential drugs, especially the antibiotics, diabetes drugs,  antihypertensive, and analgesics. The pharmaceutical industry in Palestine achieved a real leap in terms of improving the quality through providing good manufacturing criteria where it was able to penetrate the Arab and international markets. However, the Palestinian pharmaceutical industry is facing major challenges including the small local market and the barriers imposed by the Israeli occupation on importing raw material. In spite of these challenges, the four Palestinian pharmaceutical manufacturers obtained good manufacturing certificates (GMP) and they work towards enhancing the cooperative work amongst them in order for them to be able to produce new medicines and improve their capacities in the fields of Research and development.
